Parking Information
Here is information for parking on the capitol campus. There are a few visitor lots, but I have often found it difficult to find a space and have dropped off my delegation and then found parking a few blocks off. There are also robust public transit options in the area, including a route that connects our hotel to the capitol campus. Bus fares are now free!
What to Bring
- Capitol Campus Map
- Outline of Talking Points
- Copies of WACTCSA Legislative Agenda
- Business Cards
- Campus One pager from SBCTC Field Guide with campus info
Things to Know About Visiting the Capitol Campus
Check out this page for information on visiting the capitol, including food options, lactation spaces, shuttle service, open carry weapon restrictions, and things to see at the capitol.
- Bring a map, but we will have extras at check-in
- Things can change often at the capitol, expect that offices may have moved or meetings may not be where you expect. There is some construction and some offices may be in the portables, so try to leave time to be early if you can
- We recommend arriving 45 minutes prior to your first appointment to park, walk, check-in, and find the location of the first meeting
- Floors are slippery when rainy, wear comfortable shoes
- We understand many of the cultural and class-based assumptions around business dress and do not expect everyone to dress in this manner. Just know that is how folks that work at the capitol will be dressed, so that doesn’t surprise you. Comfortable, but presentable is a good balance to strike
- You will be moving between heated offices and the outside cold, so layered dress can also be helpful
- Security is on site so remember to leave pocket knives and the like at home
- Have some free time between meetings?
- Watch floor discussion in one of the legislative building galleries
- Check out the committee schedule for the day
- The office of the Secretary of State sometimes has interesting displays of state history to check out
- Eat in the capitol cafeteria!
- Even if you can’t schedule a meeting with a legislator, stop by their office and drop a copy of the agenda or send a follow-up email with contact info. Sometimes, you might even be able to setup a quick, impromptu meeting.
